Cruisin’ in Cuba | Community Food Share
Community Food Share, a Colorado-based food bank under the Feeding America umbrella, reached out to collaborate on the artwork for their biggest fundraising event of the year. The gala theme: “Cruisin’ in Cuba."
When I first heard from CFS's Communications Director (and my former boss) Julia McGee, I was so excited. Before transitioning to design work, CFS knew me as their admin, and knew I was a Cuban immigrant.
I was so grateful the opportunity presented itself to work with CFS again. They needed a Cuba + car themed illustration that would transition to a logo, and I could help get them there.

Starting with the car design, these were some preliminary sketches I shared to help aid in setting a direction before we jumped into the main scene, along with a few icons and color combinations.
After nailing our initial direction, we began to fill the landscape around it. Here are some of my initial pitches for the illustration. Since my participation was passion-driven, I wasn’t too worried about the scope, and created simple versions of the designs.
As we developed the final, we added a few more nods to Cuba.
